    Welcome to Spanish class!

My name is Loida Lainez, I will be teaching Spanish I, II, III & IV during this school year; I am convinced that this will be a great  year.

In the Spanish I class we will establish the basic foundation to learn Spanish, we will also learn cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries; this way we will prepare the students to have a successful performance in the  Spanish II class by giving them a more profound knowledge about language and help them develop their abilities to communicate.

Levels III & VI are advanced levels, here they will be reading and analyzing stories, documents and small books in Spanish.

Throughout the beginning of Spanish I to the end of Spanish IV, the students will watch and listen to videos, conversations, cultural activities, music, presentations and readings in Spanish, they will work on projects and presentations, make videos and write and read dialogs and short stories. They will be able to listen and record themselves using the vocabulary they learned. I know you will really enjoy watching the videos of your child speaking Spanish. Every year they will have the opportunity to participate in the “World Language District Fair” in a variety of areas such as cultural activities, different kinds of art, dance, poetry, vocabulary bee, film and others.

If your student already speaks Spanish or has taken the four levels of Spanish, they can apply to earn The Georgia’s Seal of Biliteracy. When they graduate from High School, this seal will be on their diploma.  The Georgia Seal of Biliteracy is a recognition conferred by the State to high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing one or more languages in addition to English. You can contact me for more details about it.

The Seal of Biliteracy provides students with a competitive edge in the employment market as well as increased opportunities for higher education. At the same time, it provides employers with a method to identify people with language and biliteracy skills; and universities a way to give academic credit to students seeking admission.

Being bilingual opens many doors, currently we are in need of them everywhere, in hospitals, schools, community services and all kind of businesses and we at the AAS want to offer your student the best and most options he can get.
