Hello Students,
I look forward to being your Geometry teacher. This is my fifth year at the Academy for Advanced Studies, but not my first year of teaching. For 36 years, I have taught in Cobb, Dekalb, Clarke, Atlanta, and now Henry County Schools. I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, and moved to Charleston, South Carolina, where I married and had three children. I moved to Georgia in 1985 and continued my education. I graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics and the University of Georgia with a Master's and Specialist Degree in Math Education. I also attended Atlanta Technical College majoring in Carpentry and Construction. I enjoy cooking and baking and have taken many cooking classes at the Art Institute of Atlanta's continuing education program. I also enjoy sewing. I've made several historical quilts that have traveled around the country. Knowing and teaching mathematics has helped me to learn and understand why it is a universal language. As you learn this semester, open your mind to explore new ideas. You can do anything you put your mind to. Geometry is not only exciting, but relevant to everyday life. You are called to do great things. Remember:
- It takes courage to do what is right.
- When you cannot fix your problems, fix your focus.
- Your attitude is like a flat tire. It won't get fixed until you change it.
- Where attention goes, energy flows.
- A soft answer turns away wrath. Let glory and beauty come from your soul.
Parents and students can reach me via email. Conferences can be scheduled via the counselors between 1:30 and 2:45 pm.
Remember to attend the open house Tuesday, July 30th, from 11am-1pm. You will have the opportunity to meet your teachers, receive your syllabus, and get answers to your questions.
