Welcome to Automotive.  I am Mr. Bert Allie and I have been teaching for 9 years at the Academy for Advanced Studies in the Henry County School System .  Before coming into education, I worked for over 20 years at a Ford Dealership.  I was a service manager and helped hire individuals within the system. I am ASE master-certified and Ford Senior Master-certified technician.  I have over 20 years experience in manufacturing, from a Machinist to a Senior Mfg. Engineer.   My experience has taught me what a person needs to know to make a career in business today.  Each student comes with different backgrounds and desires for the future.  I therefore hope to transfer that knowledge to the students so they may have a successful and enjoyable future on their chosen career path. In our Automotive Technology classes, the first priority is safety for every student.  They will spend two weeks studying the different aspects of safety, from fire to automotive lift safety. Each student will be required to take a safety exam and score 90% or better to gain access to the working shop. Safety glasses are part of the normal dress of the students.  School furnishes one pair safety glasses, Should the loose the glasses, they will be required to buy 2nd pair. Students may furnish their personal glasses if they are approved safety glasses.  Any type injury must be reported to the instructor prior to class ending. Students are not required to wear steel toe shoes but open toe shoes are not allowed in the shop.

The subject materials to be taught in each class are as follows:

    Safety

    Employability

    Tools

    Electrical

    Brakes

    Steering and Suspension

    Cooling and Lubrication Systems

    Basic Engine and Transmission

    Air Conditioning

There will be assessments for each subject to measure class learning and preparedness for possible ntry employment.

Our goal is to provide students with the opportunity to be ready for entry-level employment in the automotive industry or prepare them for advanced education.

Every student in the Automotive Pathway is strongly encouraged to join and participate in the Academy's SkillsUSA chapter.  Here is the link to SkillsUSA at the Academy.
