One of the best lessons that I learned as a student was to follow your own path. When finishing culinary school, I was constantly barraged by people asking me what kind of grill restaurant or soul food restaurant I was going to open. The problem was, I had no interest in grilling or soul food, and asian cuisines were more interesting to me. My instructor listened to my complaints, and informed me that the only person standing in my way was myself, and that I would pave the path that I wanted to walk down. With that concept, comes the point that everyone learns differently. If students have a passion to learn and explore, they are more likely to continue to pursue a goal that is established by themselves.
