(PDF of the book can be found online)

Conflict is the action that builds suspense and keeps the story or novel moving along.

Without conflict, the story would drag and fail to hold the reader’s attention.

    • Read the book.

    • You will need a white poster board divided into eight squares to complete this assignment.

    • At the top of each box, write the chapter number(s), whether the conflict is internal or external, and the type of conflict.   Write a complete, well-written sentence that summarizes the most important conflict that occurs in each chapter(s).  Place this information in the boxes as shown in the sample drawing below.

    Internal Conflict External Conflict

Man vs. Self                Man vs. Nature

                                         Man vs. Society

    Man vs. Man

    • In the bottom of each box, draw a detailed picture that illustrates the CONFLICT described at the top of the box.

    • Your drawings must be exceptionally detailed and NO WHITE SPACE VISIBLE!

    • Your sentences must be complete, well-written and accurately explain the conflict occurring in the chapter(s).

    • You will be graded on the accuracy of illustrations (5 points per box), and the accuracy and quality of the required information in the top of each box (5 points per box).

    • You will also be graded on overall neatness, creativity, accuracy of information, and effort (10 points), and clear evidence that you read and understood the story (10 points).

    • Write your name and class period on the back of your poster.

    • Color  your picture to help in depicting the conflict.
