Henry County Schools operates an Alternative to Suspension (ATS) program for middle and high school students (6th-12th grades).
This is a voluntary program that is an option for students in grades 6th - 12th in lieu of serving Out-of-School Suspension (OSS) between 1 and 10 days. In the ATS program, students will participate in an in-person intervention process that addresses the areas of concern and reason for placement. The intervention sessions will utilize an engaged approach to facilitate best practices to emphasize social skills that can be implemented when they return to their school, at home and within the community.
Please see the ATS page for more information and parent/guardian sign-up: https://sites.google.com/henry.k12.ga.us/ats/home?pli=1
Parent feedback on the ATS program:
"ATS provided school-like structure and ensured my child completed his schoolwork." (Ola High School parent)
"The benefit for us was for my daughter to still attend school with assistance on assignments, while participating in mentoring on making smart decisions" (Hampton High School parent)
"My student was able to still attend a social school setting even though he was receiving discipline from his current school. ATS is a viable alternative to out of school suspension." (Stockbridge Middle School parent)
"The SEL moments and the one-on-ones were very beneficial to my child. Facing reality and talking about things. My daughter enjoyed having the discussions with the teacher as well as in the groups." (Luella High School parent)
"My son was pleasantly surprised with his experience. He liked the relatively smaller classroom size. Every student was able to focus as needed." (Luella High School parent)
"In ATS, my daughter learned that there's consequences behind the things that you do. She also learned how to manage conflict." (Hampton High School parent)
"My student was able to get her work done and receive assistance rather than staying home all day during the suspension. This was beneficial to us." (Woodland High School parent)
