Mrs. Shannon Vessell

My name is Shannon Vessell, and this is my twelfth year teaching at Eagle's Landing High School. My main goal is to help my students achieve their goals by pushing them to reach their full potential. I look forward to working with you all, but first, let me tell you a little about myself. 
 
I grew up in Henry County and graduated from Stockbridge High School in 2007, so this community is especially near and dear to my heart. It is my passion to give back to the community that helped form who I have become. I chose to continue my education at Clayton State University, where I studied English Literature. Although I did not initially plan to become a teacher, I discovered my true calling for education during a study abroad trip to London, England, where I saw Romeo and Juliet performed live at Shakespeare's Globe Theatre. That experience brought back memories of the impact my ninth-grade English teacher had on my life, and I knew at that moment that it was my destiny to become an English teacher. I'm pretty sure I recall the heavens opening and baby cherubs singing as chill bumps formed on my arms while I came to this revelation. :)
 
In addition to holding a certificate in secondary English education, I hold additional certifications in special education, gifted and talented education, and AP Language. This year, I will be teaching American Literature, Honors American Literature, AP Language and Composition, and AP Literature and Composition. In the past, I have taught 9th Grade Literature, Honors 9th Grade Literature, and World Literature. I am currently working on my master's in curriculum and instruction (MEd) in ELA at Florida State University (Go 'Noles!). 
 
This year, I will be serving as the head coach for the mock trial team. 
 
Additionally, I am an avid reader, traveler, and lifelong learner. I do not have children of my own, but I have a dog that I adore -- Stella. During my summers I enjoy traveling the world with my husband and friends. So far, we have been to London, England; Munich, Germany; Rome, Italy; Sydney, Australia; and Auckland, New Zealand. We are planning our next trip to Barcelona, Spain, and Athens, Greece. When I'm not traveling to far-off countries, I enjoy spending time with my sister in San Francisco and the rest of my family in Niceville, Florida.
