      Need Inspiration?

See below for monthly submission calls

      August Inspiration

      • Summer is winding down, and school is ramping back up. We are looking for any entries (both fiction and poetry) that deal with the start of the school year. This includes (but is not limited to) stories about being a new student in a big school, stories about a teacher who has been especially inspiring/helpful, and your dreams and goals for the school year.

      September Inspiration

      • By September, fall sports are in full swing. We are looking for any entries that are sports-related. This includes (but is not limited to) a story about an athlete who persevered through an injury, a story about a coach who is especially inspiring, or even a story about friends attending the big game together.

      October Inspiration

      • It’s getting dark earlier and there’s a nip in the air. October is the month when creepy crawlies come out to play, things go bump in the night, and readers find themselves in the mood for ghost stories, mysteries, thrillers, horrors, and the like. If you find yourself inspired by the season or if you just like to write in these ghoulish genres, we're looking for submissions from you this month! On the other hand -- it's fall y'all! October is also the month when the trees are ablaze with color as autumn sets in, and let's not forget about football, bonfires, and pumpkin-spiced... everything! We will also be grateful to receive any submissions that are inspired by this wonderful time of year!

      November Inspiration

      • As the year closes and the days become shorter, we are reminded to take a moment to reflect on all of the things and people for which we are thankful. This is also a time when we spend more time indoors with our families and loved ones creating memories that will last a lifetime. November also kicks off the start of the holiday season from Dia De Los Muertos on November 1 to Thanksgiving on November 25 to Black Friday on the very next day. We are looking for stories, essays, and poetry that are inspired by this wonderful time of year!

      December

      • Brrrr! Baby, it's getting cold outside! The year is coming to a close as we run full force into the holiday season. Our classes are winding down as we look forward to a much-needed two-week break. This is the time of the year that we spend with family members while nestling close to the fireplace and sharing tidings of joy and peace. We drive around looking at holiday lights and singing festive songs. We are looking for stories, essays, and poetry that are inspired by this wonderful time of year!
