HCS Students Honored Nationally for Top Performance in College Courses
HENRY COUNTY, GA – A total of 18 Henry County Schools students were named to the National Educational Equity Lab (Ed Equity Lab) Spring 2023 Honor Society.
Honorees are high school students whose academic performance was in the top 20% of all students nationwide taking dual credit through Ed Equity Lab courses from schools including Howard University, Stanford University, Princeton University, Wesleyan University, the University of Pennsylvania, Georgetown University, Cornell University, Brown University, Spelman College, Columbia University, and Arizona State University.
“The Henry County Board of Education is committed to advancing opportunities, access, and outcomes for every student in Henry County Schools,” said Superintendent Mary Elizabeth Davis. “Having the opportunity to experience rigor and academic exposure prepares our students for a winning future. Moreover, this partnership serves to allow more students exposure to advanced content coursework, which aligns with our Community-Inspired Strategic Plan.”
“We are excited that we have been able to provide students with access to courses taught by college professors from top-tier universities and the opportunity to do so in their very own high schools,” added Board Chair Annette Edwards (Dist. 2).
The 18 honorees include McDonough High’s Keara Field, Zhyane Freeman and Kanglyn Lu; Stockbridge High’s Erick Bibiano Ignacio, Martin Bong, Kennedi Bryan, Keishlyanne Castro Burgos, Jailyn Davila-Tercero, Breanna Fonrose, Asher Hitzeman, Vinsu Patel, Aubrey Perry, Tyler Reece, Monica Robinson, Derek Sanders, and Jaden Turner; and Woodland High’s Simone Dotson and Kai Franklin.
These scholars were honored at a virtual ceremony on Aug. 23 featuring university professors, high school teachers, district leaders, as well as the National Ed Equity Lab board and CEO Leslie Cornfeld.
