School Board Appreciation Week in Henry County Schools

March 14-18 designated to show support for school leaders

HENRY COUNTY, GA – The week of March 14-18 is School Board Appreciation Week as recognized by the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) and Henry County Schools.  School systems all across Georgia are celebrating their boards of education throughout the week for their dedication and service to the communities in which they serve.

The Henry County Board of Education is a unified governance team, working diligently together to serve the community by providing focus, resources, and support for the 6,000+ employees and 43,000+ students across 50 schools.

Henry County Schools’ five members of the Board of Education include:

Mrs. Holly Cobb, Chair (District 3) – 6th year of service

Mrs. Annette Edwards, Vice-Chair (District 5) – 8th year of service

Dr. Pam Nutt (District 1) – 26th year of service

Mr. Makenzie McDaniel (District 2) – 2nd year of service

Mrs. Sophe Pope (District 4) – 4th year of service

The Henry County Board of Education continues to be a great example throughout the state for their leadership through a global pandemic, community collaboration and adoption of a new five-year strategic plan, and fiscal management during one of the most economically challenging times in our community, state, and nation.

“Our board has consistently put the students and employees of Henry County first in every decision they make to support a high-performing school district,” said Mary Elizabeth Davis, Superintendent of Henry County Schools. “Strong budgetary management and oversight, policy creation and adoption, and a commitment to ensuring every student and staff member’s needs are taken care of have ensured that we have come through the past couple of years so much stronger thanks to their leadership.”

The board has been able to be featured in regional and state conferences for their navigation of these challenging times, and their unified governance has earned them back-to-back recognitions as a finalist for the Large Systems Governance Team of the Year for Georgia.  They also continue to rack up awards from the state’s school boards association by way of Leading Edge awards for communication and teaching and learning, while also earning the highest designation of Exemplary Board.

Board members will be recognized during their special week with mementos from the district and schools, as well as recognition during the March board meetings.
