Dutchtown High School Senior named 2021 Georgia Scholar

HENRY COUNTY, GA – Ruhi Patel, a senior from Dutchtown High School, has been named a 2021 Georgia Scholar by the Georgia Department of Education and its Excellence Recognition Office.  This honor is bestowed upon high school seniors achieving great success inside and outside of school.

According to the eligibility requirements, students up for the recognition must have exhibited excellence in all phases of school life, in community activities, and at home.  Their course loads over the past four years of high school have been exemplary and reflect success in each.  They have also successfully participated in interscholastic events at their school and in their communities, while they have assumed active roles in school-sponsored extracurricular activities.

Patel is one of only 323 students from across the state to be named a Georgia Scholar.

State School Superintendent Richard Woods had high praise for these accomplished students.

“As a state, we can all draw inspiration from the resilience and determination of the class of 2021,” Superintendent Woods said. “Like their counterparts in the class of 2020, they dealt with the sudden shutdown of in-person schooling in March of last year. Then they persevered through a school year that was, of necessity, unlike any we have ever seen before – and still, they found a way to excel. I am extremely proud of each 2021 Georgia Scholar and can’t wait to see what this outstanding group of students accomplishes.”

To receive this recognition at the end of her high school career means a lot to Patel.

“It is an extreme honor to be named Georgia Scholar, representing my school and my school district,” said Patel.  “To me, being a Georgia Scholar isn't just about academics, but rather going beyond our comfort zones to seek out resources that others would never try to find.”

Patel will receive a special seal to be affixed to her diploma.”

This high-achieving scholar plans on attending Georgia Tech in the fall, but she shares that her time in Henry County Schools has prepared her well.

“These 12 years have done more than enough to prepare me to thrive in the next chapter of my life.  At Dutchtown, the relationships I have made with teachers and staff are unforgettable. Not just was I learning content, I was also learning the vital life lessons that are necessary for our futures after high school.”

Patel will be receiving a seal to affix to her diploma to mark her accomplishment.
