Unit 3: Force and Motion
STANDARD: S8P3 Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about cause and effect relationships between force, mass, and the motion of objects.
ELEMENT: S8P3.b Construct an explanation using Newton's Laws of Motion to describe the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object.
LEARNING TARGETS:
- I can identify gravity as a constant force that impacts an object’s motion. (Knowledge)
- I can define force and motion and the relationship between them. (Knowledge)
- I can state Newton’s three Laws of Motion. (Knowledge)
- I can give examples of each of Newton’s Laws in action. (Knowledge)
- I can define balanced and unbalanced forces. (Knowledge)
- I can use Newton’s Laws of motion to describe and predict motion. (Reasoning)
- I can demonstrate Newton’s Laws of Motion using real-world examples and/or computer representations. (Reasoning)
- I can explain the difference between mass and weight. (Reasoning)
- I can recognize relationships between mass and force. (Reasoning)
- I can identify whether an object is balanced or unbalanced in terms of the forces acting on it. (Reasoning)
- I can describe how balanced and unbalanced forces affect an object’s motion. (Reasoning)
- I can explain how friction affects the motion of an object. (Reasoning)
- I can construct an explanation using Newton’s Laws of Motion to describe the effects of balanced forces and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object. (Reasoning)
