Greetings All!

My name is Ms. Cunningham, but you can call me Ms. C, and I am so excited to be part of the Dutchtown Middle School team! More importantly, I am THRILLED to be your child’s new teacher! I can tell it’s going to be a fun year and I can’t wait to see what the year has in store for us.

I want to tell you a bit more about what you can expect from my class, but first I’m going to tell you a little about me. My father was a soldier, so we lived all over the world. When I graduated from high school, I moved to Atlanta to attend Spelman College where I majored in psychology, but quickly changed my major to English because I loved it so much! This is my fourth full year teaching at Dutchtown and I could not have been more excited! Before DMS, I taught English in Japan. In fact, don't be surprised if your child picks up some Japanese. Just ask them about it!

Having experience teaching middle school students, I know exactly where they need to go to be superstars next year! I structure my classes from a global standpoint, meaning that I want to challenge our kids to think about the cultural and political implications of what they learn. My teaching philosophy is that learning is most effective when it is both relevant AND fun, so I make every effort to make our classes applicable to the real world as well as spark an interest in what goes on far beyond their backyard.

What you can expect from me is being an advocate for your child. I want your child to succeed as much as you do. During this year you can expect to hear from me when your child has areas that need improvement, but also when your child is doing well. We are partners in your child’s education, so we share in the victories as well as the struggles. I value your input very much because any good teacher knows that the most successful students have the foundation of supportive parents/guardians. I would love insider tips on what types of things motivate your child, in what areas your child may need a little extra attention, etc. You can best reach me anytime by email.
