Introduction:
Orienteering is a sport that is recognized as a lettered sport. In orienteering the cadet will use a map to run a course through various types of terrain to find control marks spread throughout the park that you are running in. The distance of the courses very depending on which course the runner is running. To be an efficient orienteer you must memorize the map symbols, how to read the contour lines, and know how to read a map in general. Another key factor that a accomplished orienteer must master is being able to run the course they are working on with good speed and efficiency. Even through in orienteering the cadets run individually, once all the runners come back from running their course they are scored and the team with the highest score wins the meet, but, there are chances for a cadet to receive individual medal for placing within the top so many of their course.Website for Map Symbols/Features: http://www.fortnet.org/icd/Page_1.html
