The following links are videos of students and/or teachers modeling mathematics.
    Modeling Decimal Multiplication
Having a hard time understanding how your child is multiplying decimals? Here is a video demonstrating the modeling of decimals using Base Ten blocks.
Modeling Decimal Multiplication and Division Using Shading
Your child brings home a page full of 10 x 10 grids and indicates that they have to model the multiplication and division of decimals using the grids. This link provides a video demonstrating the same models that your child uses in the classroom.
This link contains a video that demonstrates multiplying fractions by fractions through modeling.
This video provides a demonstration of how to model the division of whole numbers by fractions.
This video demonstrates how students can use an empty number line to add. This strategy works well if the students need to regroup. In the video, the instructor uses large numbers to jump. Do not be concerned if your child jumps using ones or tens at first. As they develop their number sense, the increments that they use to jump will increase.
This video demonstrates how to model division using Base Ten blocks. Although it invites you to register for a membership it is not needed. You may use the manipulatives in the virtual library to model the division homework or activities that you child is doing.
This video demonstrates partial products in multiplication using Base Ten blocks. Although it invites you to register for a membership it is not needed. You may use the manipulatives in the virtual library to model the division homework or activities that you child is doing.
Ten Frames are great for learning how to compose and decompose numbers and to see the relationship of numbers. These are widely used in the Kindergarten and First grade classrooms, but are great for the older students as well when multiplying/dividing and learning about fractions and decimals.
