Unit 2: Analyzing Linear Inequalities

  • In this unit, students will extend their understanding of linear inequalities by solving linear inequalities in two variables. Students will also extend their understanding of systems of equations by learning to solve systems of linear inequalities through graphing to model real life phenomena. This unit, in conjunction with the previous unit, will provide a solid foundation for all subsequent units. Students will also be expected to model and explain real life phenomena by creating mathematical models and using various mathematical representations. This unit will provide preparation for students to move into linear inequalities and prepare students to understand and compare constraints in context.

A.PAR.4 Create, analyze, and solve linear inequalities in two variables and systems of linear inequalities to model real-life phenomena.

    • A.PAR.4.1 Create and solve linear inequalities in two variables to represent relationships between quantities, including mathematically applicable situations; graph inequalities on coordinate axes with labels and scales.
    • A.PAR.4.2 Represent constraints of linear inequalities and interpret data points as possible or not possible.
    • A.PAR.4.3 Solve systems of linear inequalities by graphing, including systems representing a mathematically applicable situation.
