    Hello,

                Welcome to Ola Middle School’s Public Safety Class.  I hope that you have had an outstanding summer.  This class is a Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education class (CTAE).  Students will explore careers in the area of public safety that include law enforcement, fire and rescue, emergency medical services, security, and corrections. Although the focus of this course teaches the foundations of public safety careers, this class helps students explore career opportunities and interests as well.  Students will learn about how to apply for a job, interview, and develop employability skills.  They will also learn leadership characteristics, communication skills, appropriate work site behavior, work ethic, and the importance of skills training. 

    Obviously, this semester will have some challenges.  This is a course that is performance based and hands-on.  In a remote environment, we will need to improvise as much as possible.  We will be learning skills that might require you to use household items, because you do not have access to the learning materials in the classroom.  For instance, instead of using the CPR mannequins, you may need to use your pillow.  DON’T WORRY!  We will make this work together!  I have provided a list that includes the units that we will cover throughout the term and semester for each grade level.  If you are in 7th and 8th grade, I will teach you for a full semester (18 weeks).  If you are in 6th grade, I will teach you for one term (9 weeks).  I look forward to seeing you soon.
