Ms. Shikennia Jones
I am very pleased to serve as the 7th Grade Counselor at Eagle’s Landing Middle School. I am a proud native of Atlanta, Georgia. I attended Morris Brown College for my undergraduate studies in Early Childhood Education. I began my career in Education in 2002 as an Elementary School Teacher in Dekalb County School District. I believe learning is a lifelong journey. I furthered my education by obtaining both my Masters and Educational Specialists Degrees along with Certification in Educational Leadership and Supervision. I became a School Counselor in 2006. As a School Counselor, my primary responsibility is to promote the academic, personal, and social development of all students. I love serving in this role because it allows me to work with many children and their families on important skills. I truly believe it is vital for the adults of the future to learn how to communicate and get along with each other and solve difficult problems. As I work with our students, I hope to change the future positively. If assistance is needed beyond the brief solution-focused counseling model, other resources will be provided as needed.
The 7th graders will see me in a variety of settings this year as I work to meet their academic, personal/social, and career needs. I am available to meet individually with students, as well as providing guidance in the classroom. I will also be developing small groups throughout the year to help students become confident, successful learners. The ELMS Counseling Team also collaborates with teachers, administrators, and other school & community stakeholders to support and ensure our Scholars Soar!
