Hickory Flat Elementary School is one of 27 Title I schools in the Henry County School System for the 2023-2024 school year. Title I is a federally funded program under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). A Title I school is designated when 40% or more of the student enrollment qualifies for free or reduced lunch. Once a school receives the designation of Title I, all students and families in the Schoolwide Title I program (regardless of income) receive the benefits of the Title I program.
The purpose of Title I, is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments. Title I programs must be based on effective means of improving student achievement and include evidenced-based strategies. Title I funds are used to provide remediation to children, develop staff, and engage families. Title I schools must jointly develop, with parents and family members, this written Parent and Family Engagement Plan (PFEP).
