Welcome to the 22-23 school year @ the Flat!

I am Mary Beth Middlebrook, and I serve as your Family Engagement Liaison (FEL). While my job title has changed, (formerly we were Parent Involvement Professionals or PIPs), I assure you that my duty and commitment to you has not. My primary focus is to support you: our parents, guardians, and caregivers. My goal is to strengthen the partnership between home and school so that you can be fully engaged in your child’s learning. At Hickory Flat, we want families to be active participants in the life of the school and feel welcomed, valued, and connected to each other, to school staff, and to what students are learning and doing in class.

Each year, we provide a variety of workshops, meetings, information, activities, and resources to support our academic goals. We design these with you in mind. The more you know about the learning process and what is happening in school, the more you will be able to assist and support your child at home. Likewise, we ask for and welcome your input on what you like and what works for you, as well as, ways we can improve our support to you in the future. This is a partnership that only works when communication goes both ways.

Also available to our parents is our Family Resource Center (FRC). This is, basically, a lending library for parents and caregivers. However, instead of just books, we have games and activities, flashcards and manipulatives, and a wide variety of other resources available for you to check out for free to use at home with your child. I am here Monday through Friday from 7:00am-3:00pm. If these times are not convenient, contact me to arrange another time for your visit. The FRC is located in Room 202, take a left out of the front office and the FRC will be the first classroom on the right. This room is for you, so I hope you stop by for a visit soon. I would love to show you what we have to offer.

Whether you are a new or returning family, remember that we are here for you. If you have a question, comment, or problem and do not know who to reach out to, feel free to contact me. I often say I don’t know all the answers, but I will make sure we find out who we need to talk to to address your questions and concerns.

By working together, we are committed to ensuring the academic success of our students.

    Sincerely,

    Mary Beth Middlebrook

At the end of the day, the most overwhelming key to a child’s success is the positive involvement of parents.
