• Hickory Flat Elementary School will take the following measures to promote and support parents and family members as an important and necessary foundation for strong family engagement to strengthen the school, improve student academic achievement and reach our goals:  We will:

    • Offer essential information and resources on HFE’s Title I Family Engagement webpage to assist parents to support their child’s learning at home. Copies of these materials will be made available by request for parents who may have limited internet access as well as those in need of translated versions.
    • Share vital information to parents on the Georgia Standards of Excellence, state and local academic assessments including the Georgia Milestones, as well as the required assessments for students including assessments for parents of children receiving ESOL services.  We will provide parents information on standardized testing content, testing procedures, and interpretation of test scores to ensure parents are aware of ways they can monitor their child’s progress and work with educators to discuss areas of concern.
    • Ensure all information related to school and parent notifications, programs, meetings, and other activities is available to all parents and will be posted on our school website, Infinite Campus Messenger, Class Dojo, Flat Family Newsletter, Family Resource Bulletin Board, social media and/or other school message systems to post information for parents.  On occasion, materials may also be sent home with students in their Wednesday folder.
    • Translate parent notifications and resources in parents’ native language, where applicable and feasible, and with advanced notice provide interpreters at parent events and meetings.  Information and resources posted on the school website will be translated to the extent practicable.
    • Partner with preschools and middle schools to share school information that will help prepare parents families and their children for successful school transitioning.  At Hickory Flat Elementary, a special emphasis will be placed on transitions to kindergarten and middle school.
    • Provide training for staff, based on feedback from parents, on strategies to educate staff on the importance of parent involvement and value of building ties between home and school.  We will focus on strategies to improve communication and connectivity with parents to increase family engagement.  We will work as equal partners with parents to implement programs for reading and math activities for our students outside the classroom.
    • Offer literacy and computer resources for parents and family members to help further enhance their skills and knowledge base.
    • Provide training and associated handouts/materials to help parents and families work with their children at home to improve their children’s academic achievement. The materials and training include, but are not limited to, literacy training, reading, writing, and math strategies.  Technology training will be available and will include education on the harms of copyright piracy.
    • Offer workshops as requested by parents, for parents, from the title I parent survey and input meeting.  Provide parents and families with resources pertaining to topics such as parenting strategies, obtaining a GED, resume writing, and job search. HFE will provide educational materials to further enhance parenting skills based on a variety of cultural and educational backgrounds.
    • Collaborate with our Partners in Education, community leaders and businesses to improve awareness and increase participation in HFE’s parent and family engagement programs and events.
    • Collect, review, and respond to feedback received on the annual parent surveys, as well as surveys conducted at programs and workshops throughout the year.  Parent input, comments, and suggestions are welcome at any time during the year to further support our parents and families effectively based on their needs.
