- Tab dividers - recommended but not required
Grading Scale:
Assessments = 40% Practice Work = 40% Final Exam = 20%
**If students complete the worksheets given ON TIME they will be allowed to use them to help on quizzes. This will also help them with their practice work grade percentage. Study guides will be given before each test to aid in studying.**
Expectations:
DO:
- Be in your seat on time (not with just one foot in the door).
- Be prepared for class (pencil with lead or pen, binder, paper, and book).
- Be respectful (no talking back, cursing, or making fun of your classmates).
- Be willing and ready to learn and work hard (no bad attitudes).
DO NOT:
- Do NOT write on the cabinets, desks, tables, or any other furniture or permanent fixtures in the room!!
- Do NOT eat or drink except water in the classroom!
- Do NOT HAVE A CELL PHONE OUT DURING CLASS!
Policies & Procedures:
- Make-up Work - Work can be made up in the case of EXCUSED absences. You are responsible for obtaining any missed work. All work must be made up within the number of days missed by the student. (Ex. If a student misses 1 day, then they have 1 day to complete make up work. If a student misses 2 days, then they have 2 days to complete make up work.) TESTS AND QUIZZES MUST BE MADE UP THE DAY THE STUDENT RETURNS TO SCHOOL!!!
- Write clearly. If I cannot read it, then I cannot grade it. I will mark any answers wrong that I cannot read.
- Late work Policy - There is no late work accepted for full credit. Anything over one week late will have a max grade of 75%.
- Cell phones – Cell phones will NOT BE ALLOWED during instruction. I have a cell phone holder where I prefer students place their phones during instruction. At the very least, cell phones must be out of sight at all times. If you are found using your phone, your phone will be taken up by the teacher until the end of the period. Failure to comply, will result in an automatic referral.
Content Overview:
Students will be given their Unit Planning Guides and packets at the beginning of each unit. If they misplace the packet, the individual assignments will be available to view and/or print from google classroom. However, assignments will normally be turned in on paper in class.
- Unit 1 – Human Population Impact
- Unit 2 – Energy Resources
- Unit 3 – Ecology
- Unit 4 – Biological Diversity
- Unit 5 – Climate Change
CHEATING POLICY
Any type of cheating results in a zero for the assignment. Cheating includes but is not limited to copying someone’s work, allowing someone to copy your work, plagiarism from a book or the internet, using a cheat sheet, looking at someone else’s paper, using a cell phone or electronic device during a test or quiz, talking during a test or quiz, storing information in your calculator, turning in any dishonest work, etc. Cheating and plagiarism are serious offenses. There will be NO second chances.
Procedures, Strategies, Extra Help, & Assessments
Daily Procedures
- Per school policy, any students who arrive within 2 minutes after the bell have to fill out the tardy pass in the folder hanging on the door before being allowed to enter.
- Per school policy, any student who is more than two minutes late will have to go to the office to get a pass from an administrator.
- When they enter, students will drop their cell phones in the cell phone holder with their seat number on it. The first time I see a phone out the student will receive a warning. The second time, they will receive a step. If they have their phone out twice in the same class period, the student will receive a referral to administration.
- Students will sit in their assigned seats.
- If a student does not have a writing utensil, he may borrow one from me but has to leave an item with me until he returns the pencil at the end of class. The student may also choose to receive a step and borrow a pencil instead.
- Each day students will label a sheet of notebook paper with their name and the date. They will use this paper to complete the Do Now & Exit activity as well as any questions or work assigned to them in class. Papers may be collected at any time and graded.
- Students will begin the Do Now activity posted on the board when they sit down and take note of any upcoming assignments.
- Agenda for class will also be posted on the board.
- For each unit, student will receive a packet with all required materials. Please do not lose this packet.
- Students must have their chromebooks to conduct any research for projects as cell phones will not be allowed out of the holder during class time.
- Classroom expectations and grading policies are contained in the syllabus provided.
Extra Help
- Students may come Wednesday before school from 7:30 to 8:15 or after school Wednesday from 3:15 to 4:00 for extra help or to make up tests.
- If these times do not work, students may schedule an appointment to come another day.
Assessment Strategies
- Students will be assessed using a variety of strategies including:
- Quizzes
- Tests
- Exams
- Hands-on learning projects
- Labs
- Group work
- Various forms of classwork
- Retakes will be considered on a case by case basis. Parent signature and extra work will be required to be completed prior to the retake.
- I do grade replacement if evidence of mastery is shown. For instance, if a student scores poorly on a quiz but does well on the unit test, I will replace the low quiz grade with the test grade.
