Graduation Requirements:
All students in the state of Georgia have the same specific core curriculum requirements, but students will have flexibility in their elective course choices. Students may choose to take regular, honors, or Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Students in the state of Georgia must earn 23 credits and must take the following courses to earn a diploma.
Academic Course Requirements:
4 years/credits in English
9th Grade Literature & Composition, 10th grade World Literature & Composition, 11th grade American Literature, & 12th Grade British Literature.
4 years/credits in Math
Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, and 4th math of choice (Pre-Calculus, Adv Math Decision Making, AP Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus, AP Statistics)
4 years/credits in Science
Biology, Physical Science OR Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, OR Earth Systems, and 4th science of choice.
3 years/credits in Social Studies
World History, United States (US) History, and American Government/Economics (0.5 credits each). Students begin social studies in 10th grade. Students can take World Geography and AP Human Georgraphy as an elective credit.
Elective Requirements
1 year of Health and Physical Education (PE)
0.5 credit for Health and 0.5 credit for Personal Fitness (taken in 9th grade)
At least 3 credits in CTAE, Fine Arts, or World Language
Students must earn 3 credits in any combination from one of these three curriculum areas. Students planning on attending a 4-year college or university MUST earn a minimum of 2 credits of the same World Language.
4 credits of Additional Electives
Electives can be taken in any curriculum area, including CTAE, Fine Arts, World Language, Electives, and Academic Electives.
Totaling 23 credits to graduate
Promotion Indicators: 5 credits= 10th grade, 11 credits= 11th grade, 17 credits= 12th grade
*Students may take Dual Enrollment courses after completion of the 10th grade. Dual enrollment courses will also satisfy core credit required for graduation.
**Students will take the End-Of-Course (EOC) Georgia Milestone Exams in Algebra I, Biology, US History, and American Literature. The Milestone will count as 20% of the student's final grade in the course.
