Welcome to my Web PageTeacher Name:KEVIN BAGLEYSchool Email Address: kbagley@henry.k12.ga.usSubjects I Teach: Advanced Math Decision Making, Earth Systems, and ESE Co-Chairperson___________________________________________________________Welcome Message
Welcome to Advanced Mathematical Decision Making and your fourth year of high school math! I have taught AMDM since our building opened. I am one of only a handful of teachers left that opened Ola back in 2006. AMDM is not your typical math class of graphing functions and solving for X. AMDM is a math course that will teach you how to problem solve and make decisions about math in everyday life. Students in AMDM do not walk out of class saying “when am I ever going to use this in real life.” For instance, if you were in charge of prom, could you estimate how big of a location we would need for all the juniors, seniors, and guest to fit safely? We also have a unit which addresses speedometer and odometer problems after replacing stock tires/wheels with larger ones. Near the end of the year we will address finances, budgeting, along with car and home loans. You will learn the difference between simple and compound interest, computing student loan payments and interest, and the good and bad of using credit cards. Solving real math problems is what the AMDM course is all about. We usually have guest speakers from the community who assist with this.We will have Realators, Insurance Agents, Mortgage Brokers, and sometimes others visit the class to provide information you will need after graduation. We also have several College Recruiters, and Admissions Officers from both Academic and Technical Colleges visit our classes to provide information needed to make college and career choices in your near future.
The AMDM Syllabus is designed to give more details about the AMDM course this year. You can find it on my Ola High School webpage at this link: https://schoolwires.henry.k12.ga.us/Page/119417
Students: What do you do before your scheduled class time? Make sure you have your school issued Chromebook charged up and ready to go. Make sure you have paper, a writing tool, and calculator available. The TI-36 calculator you have used in the past will work well.
As your last high school math teacher, I want your senior year to be enjoyable and successful. Before we know it, you will be walking across the stage in cap and gown. Let me know how I can help you be successful this year.
Sincerely,
Kevin Bagley
