A bright-eyed frolicsome soul.
“I want to make all folks so happy and glad!
That,“ said the Year, “is my goal!”
“So happy – so happy – so happy!” he chanted.
“With never a single wet tear.
But you’ve all got to help me with all of your might!
Yes, indeed, you must help!” said the Year.“You must keep cheerful and make others cheerful,
Your smile will be catching, you see!
And shortly a great epidemic of smiles
Will make a much glad energy!
I want people happy – so happy – so happy!”
Cried the New Year and stood on his head.
“And if each person helps me and does all he can –
Then the world WILL be happy!” he said.Now, you can change the mood and tone of the poem by using different words in the provided blanks.

Learners will access and review the document, Create your own invention.pdf, and begin to brainstorm an invention that would greatly benefit the society that we live in today. Learner’s inventions have to be a NEW creative idea.

2. Read chapters 11 & 12 of The Wizard of OZ. Complete an FQR chart for these two chapters. (Directions for the FQR and the FQR chart are included in the assignment)
3. Complete the “Article of the week” questions using complete sentences.
4. Practice determining theme on Study Island.
5. Create a picture that reflects a detail in Chapters 11 or 12 that supports the theme of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
6. Email your completed work to your Reading/ELA teacher or submit your completed work upon return to school.
