Greetings, Locust Grove Middle Students and Families:

I am excited and humbled to introduce myself as the new Principal of Locust Grove Middle School. As a longtime member of the Locust Grove community, I am committed to the vision of educating the individual student while creating a school where every student and family belongs. I will begin my 21st year in Education during the 2022-23 school year. I attended Penn State University where I received a Bachelor’s in Elementary and Kindergarten Education, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign for my Master’s degree in Educational Policy with an emphasis in Diversity and Equity, and I received my Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Georgia College and State University. I began my career in Dahlonega, Georgia as a 5th grade teacher at Lumpkin County Elementary School in 2002. In addition to 5th grade, I have taught Kindergarten, 4th grade, and English Language Arts and Social Studies in 6th – 8th grades. I had the opportunity to serve at the Henry County Schools District Office from 2012 – 2019 in the Assessment, Leadership, and Instruction Departments and in December of 2019, I became one of the Assistant Principals at Dutchtown Middle School.

I am passionate about education and ensuring that each student has what they need to realize their potential. Together, the combined qualities of each student, family, and staff member will strengthen the Locust Grove community and the larger global community. When we all work together, we can ensure our school is successful for every learner.

I look forward to meeting you at Open House and working with you in the upcoming school year!

    Sincerely,

    Melissa Thomas
