¡BIENVENIDOS! WELCOME!
My name is Maria Sousa (Todd) and I am so excited about this year at Ola High School!
I have my Bachelor's degree in English Language Arts from Chaminade University and I am certified as a TESOL/TEFL/TESL teacher through Oxford Seminars.
I grew up around the world of education because my parents are Montessori teachers who now work as consultants for schools. I went to a Montessori school until high school and then transitioned into a traditional public school setting. I was in my senior year of high school when I decided I wanted to be a teacher, but it wasn't until I began to travel that I decided what exactly I wanted to teach.
I got my first taste of teaching when I traveled to Ivory Coast where I spent a couple of weeks teaching English as a Second Language. That experience led me to travel the world and to teaching languages as a career. Over the next several years, I had the chance to travel to 18 different countries and learn to speak Spanish and Portuguese. I had the wonderful opportunity to live in Buenos Aires, Argentina for almost two years, where I refined my Spanish as I taught English. When I moved back to the USA, the transition to teaching Spanish seemed like the natural next step. I spent almost three years teaching Spanish in a private Montessori school and developing an integrated Montessori Spanish curriculum for k-12 before transferring to the Henry County School System and Ola High School.
This year I am teaching Spanish 2.
