Hello, and welcome to the Art room! My name is Nathan Waterhouse and I am the art teacher here at Ola Elementary. I began teaching Elementary Art in 2006 following my internship and graduation from Michigan State University with my BFA in Art Education. I also studied Graphic Design at Minneapolis Collage of Art and Design from 1996 to 1999, and earned my MAED from Michigan State University in 2008. In 2015 I joined the Ola team and I could not be happier. Ola Elementary is an amazing place to work. We have a talented team of educators, and a motivated group of students. I live just 15 minutes away from the school with my wife and our combined five children (who all also attend in the Ola Cluster).
I am a firm believer that everyone can be an artist in their own way. It can take time to find our artist niche, but my hope is that I can help my students discover theirs. I also want to work with students to build a passion and appreciation for the arts as the arts have been proven as a tool for building academic success! (Click Here) Let's get creating!
The artist has to be something like a whale swimming with his mouth wide open, absorbing everything until he has what he really needs." (Romare Bearden)
