• Technology Supports Student Achievement

    The Information Age is here! To fulfill the Stockbridge High School mission of preparing productive citizens, information technology must be woven into the fabric of daily teaching and learning. We at SHS believe that our students deserve a technology-rich learning environment with state-of-the-art computers and equipment. Our goal is to bring Stockbridge High School into the Information Age, so that our students will not be left behind.

    Safe Learning Environment

    Recent news reports describing online predators in public libraries caused great concern among parents. The Henry County network is a safe and secure learning environment. The county’s technology terms of use policy is strictly enforced. Students may not access chat or web-based email from any school computer. A network Internet filter, Bess, blocks students from visiting inappropriate web sites. Also, many of our labs have monitoring software that allows teachers to view the content of each student’s computer screen. Most importantly, teachers always guide students as they navigate the Internet, and they teach students how to appropriately use the information found there.

    Online Learning

    Online classes are now available through the Georgia Virtual School and Henry Online Academy. Tuition is free for first time enrollees if the course is taken during regular school hours. Certified teachers from Henry County and across the state teach these online classes. This year, online students will work in our new academic labs, using computers set aside for online learning. Students who wish to enroll in online classes should see their counselor.

    Academic Labs

    Stockbridge High School believes that students and teachers should be confident users of information technology. Student learning is enhanced by easy access to online resources in academic classes. Likewise, teaching becomes more relevant and exciting when web-based, interactive information is part of the lesson. Stockbridge High School is taking the first step toward full technology integration this year with the opening of our first two academic computer labs! Located in rooms 205 and 319, these labs have been brought to students by the Henry County Career/Technology Department, Technology Services Department, and significant fund-raising efforts at SHS.

    Plagiarism Prevention: Turnitin.com

    The Internet offers vast libraries of information, so students now complete much of the research for papers and projects online. Teachers spend less time teaching students how to  find information, and more time teaching them how to use  information. To support students as they learn to appropriately use source material, Stockbridge High School has purchased the services of Turnitin.com. Turnitin is a web-based tool that instantly identifies borrowed material in student papers. The Originality Report generated by Turnitin becomes a powerful teaching tool to help students avoid plagiarism.
