    I also serve as the Social Studies Department Chair. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, a Master's Degree in Public Administration, and a Master's Degree in Social Science Education - all from the University of Georgia. I hold a Specialist in Education degree in Teacher Leadership from Piedmont College and a Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction from the same institution. I have further received gifted and leadership endorsements. My dissertation focused on the successful use of primary sources in the secondary world and American history classrooms.  I am particularly interested in student cognition, writing as a form of assessment, understanding by design instructional planning, and historical inquiry.

    Welcome Message- Welcome to the Social Studies Department of Dutchtown High School. We endeavor to meet the goals of producing informed and educated members of the citizenry.  Social Studies and humanities are of paramount importance in improving our ever-changing world.

    Requested supplies for all courses for the 2024-2025 school year:
    a composition notebook or a subject notebook for notes (note-taking is a requirement) specifically for the course enrolled in 
    a highlighter to highlight notes and handouts for our notebooks
    a folder to maintain assignments to be turned in
    a writing utensil 
    a set of pencils for map and graphic organizer activities 
     
    AP U.S. History - AMSCO Preparing for the AP U.S. History Exam 4th edition.(can be ordered through www.perfectionlearning.com or an online book retail site).  This is useful for background reading and practice style questions reflective of the AP exam.
     
    AP Psychology -REA All Access for the AP Exam Review Guide (which can be purchased through an online book retail site) or Barron's Review in AP Psychology. You may also purchase the 2nd edition of Myers' Psychology for AP to write in, highlight, etc. at any online book retailer. 
     
     The AP U.S. History exam will be on Friday, May 9, 2025. The AP Psychology exam will be on Friday, May 16, 2025. 
     
    Ongoing in-class and after-school reviews will be provided well in advance of the AP exams.  The goal, the hope, and the expectation is that by taking an AP class, students will participate in the AP exam and earn college credit while enrolled in high school. I am here to provide continuous support.
