Mrs. Jini Tyler, LCSWAs a School Social Worker my role can include, but not be limited to-:
Mental Health/Treatment Services: Provide short-term individual, family and group counseling, addressing issues such as: grief and loss, social skills, self-esteem, conflict resolution, bullying, anxiety, depression, ADHD and stress management. Psycho-social assessment, crisis intervention and referrals to long term mental health facilities, psychiatrists and therapists are also some of the areas covered by your School Social Worker.
Case Management: Make referrals to community resources including, but not limited to food pantries, clothing closets, economic assistance, community linkages for services (public assistance, health insurance, on-going case management, etc.), and collaboration with the Department of Families and Children, Department of Juvenile Justice, and Department of Human Resources.
Family/School Liaison: Advocate for families, link parents with the appropriate individuals to enhance student performance, participate in student support teams and IEP meetings (when necessary), parent/teacher conferences, special education programs and assist families who are homeless with linkages to needed services.
Attendance Support: Collaborate with attendance clerks, guidance counselors, and teachers to aid in improved school attendance, participate in the Truancy Intervention Meetings (TIM) at the County level and facilitate the referral process for truancy cases to Juvenile and State Courts.
Consultation Services: Consult with teachers, administrators and other school staff regarding social, emotional, behavioral and cultural differences that may impact student performance and provide interventions for effective classroom management.
