    Periodic Assessment of State Standards

The PASS tests are given three times throughout the school year and are a measure of student progress on the GPS in the Reading, Language Arts, and Math.  The PASS test is developed by Henry County Schools and is adminstered to all HCS students in grades 1-8.  This test includes both multiple choice and performance tasks type questions that students must complete.  Teachers are able to use PASS data to make adjustments to their instruction in preparation for the annual state CRCT.

    CFAs

Common Formative Assessments are given several times throughout the year to help our students prepare for the CRCT given at the end of the year.  The CFAs in are created by the Learning and Teaching Department at the county office and help our teachers to determine student readiness for the CRCT.  The Reading, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies CFAs are developed by Luella Middle School's teachers and are measures of student progress towards mastering the Georgia Performance Standards in their content and grade level.

CFAs are a learning tool and each student will complete an item analysis of their test and examine what areas are mastered and which areas of the GPS still need to be worked on.  Please help your student prepare for the CFAs by ensuring they do the following:
           1.  Get a good night's rest throughout the testing week.
           2.  Eat healthy meals for breakfast on the testing days.
           3.  Complete any study guides, study aids, or other materials provided by the  teachers in preparation for the CFAs.
           4.  Take each test seriously as a measure of their progress toward success in mastering the GPS.

    STAR
STAR is a computer based math and reading progress monitoring tool that helps teachers, students, and parents assess growth in these foundational areas.  Students take STAR at least three times a year. The STAR test provides data about student growth, current grade level equivalency, and areas of strength and weakness.  STAR data is most helpful in tracking the effectiveness of targeted interventions for LMS students.

    Teacher Created Assessments
These assessments include prime times, exit slips, quizzes, essays, classwork and homework used to give students practice, to allow them to show their mastery level, and to show the teachers what they know. These assignments are an integral part of daily instruction and help students and teachers identify areas of strength and weakness.
