Greetings Parents and 8th grade Georgia Studies Scholars! I am Mrs. Lacy and I am excited to share the classroom with you this year. 8th grade covers the geography, history, culture, government, and economics of United States history, with an emphasis on Georgia. The course will begin with the study of Georgia's geography and climate, followed by the historical development of Georgia. Throughout this course, you will learn about the prehistory of the Native Americans, through the formation of the colony of Georgia, the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, Reconstruction, the New South, into the modern era. The activities in this course are designed to help you build knowledge of the fundamentals of Social Studies, make informed and reasoned decisions, build awareness of and respect for cultural diversity, understand democratic principles and actively participate in civic processes, and evaluate the nature of Georgia's role in the global community. The four strands are woven together to give you ample opportunity for in-depth study of Georgia and its significance to the nation.
