ELIGIBILITY for the TALENTED and GIFTED (TAG) PROGRAM
Georgia Board of Education Rule 160-4-2-38; Education Program for Gifted Students
MENTAL ABILITY- To be eligible for gifted education services, a student must either (a) score at the 99th percentile (grades K-2) or the 96th percentile (grades 3 -12) on the compositeor full-scale score on a norm-referenced test of mental ability. Data is collected in the areas of mental ability, achievement, creativity, and motivation.
ACHIEVEMENT- Students shall score at or above the 90th percentile on the total battery, total math, or total reading sections of a norm-referenced achievement test or have produced asuperior student-generated product or performance, where the superior performance is one that can be translated into a numerical score at or above 90 on a 100 point scale.
CREATIVITY- Students shall score at or above the 90th percentile on the total battery score of a norm-referenced test of creative thinking
MOTIVATION- Students shall receive a score ator above the 90th percentile on a standardized motivational characteristics rating scale, or have a grade point average of at least a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale.
CONTINUED PARTICIPATION- Any student participating in the gifted program must maintain a grade point average of at least a 3.0 in order to remain in the program. Any student who does not meet this criteria will be placed on probation for one semester while receiving services.
