Welcome back to another school year! My name is Ms. Carrecia Augustin, and I am super excited to be a part of the Smith-Barnes community as the school counselor for the 2023-2024 academic school year. This is my 3rd year as the counselor at SBE. My deepest desire as your school counselor is to create an environment that will allow our students to thrive. I have a combined 20 years of experience working in mental health and education. I earned my Master of Education in school counseling from Liberty University.

As a school counselor, my mission is to provide students with access to the necessary services to ensure that they reach their academic and personal goals. I am committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment where every student feels valued and respected. I work to support several other events throughout the school year, such as Kindness Week, Red Ribbon Week, Career Lessons, Career Day, student of the month recognition, perfect attendance parties, and many more activities. 

I strive to create an atmosphere of trust and compassion, while also providing students with the tools they need to be successful. I am passionate about helping students identify and develop their strengths and talents, as well as addressing areas of concern. I use a variety of techniques, such as individual counseling, small group work, and classroom instruction, to ensure that all students are supported and empowered to achieve their social-emotional, academic and career goals.

In addition to providing direct services to students, I also serve as a link between the school, family, and the community. I collaborate with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure that students receive the best possible education. I also strive to help families better understand the school system and the available resources.

I am dedicated to helping students reach their potential and become successful, well-rounded individuals. My goal is to help students become responsible and productive citizens who can make a positive contribution to our society.
