8th Grade
Greetings Luella Middle School Parents, Students, Families, and Friends,
My name is Shunda Walker, and it is with great enthusiasm that I warmly welcome you to Luella Middle School. I am honored that I have been appointed as Assistant Principal at Luella Middle School. I am incredibly honored and excited to work alongside Mrs. Stanley, Ms. Boyd, and Mr. Calloway to make a positive difference in the life of your child. Our motto is, Hear us Roar! I am looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure that all of our students reach their maximum potential. With that in mind, I invite you to become an active participant in our school community. You can do so by volunteering, joining the PTO, and by supporting school events.
Please allow me to share a little bit about myself. This is my 21st year in education and my 16th year working in Henry County. I have held various educational roles aimed at increasing student achievement and promoting teacher collaboration. Prior to my recent appointment as assistant principal at Luella Middle School, I served as an assistant principal at Rocky Creek Elementary School. Prior to that, I served as an assistant principal at Eagle's Landing Middle School. I also served as an Instructional Coach at Rocky Creek Elementary for 3 1/2 years. I was named RCE Teacher of the Year in 2010-2011. I am happily married to an educator (DeAnte) and have two lovely daughters (Taja and Jyra). We have an adorable Bishon Frise puppy (Polo) and a tank full of fish.
My educational journey began at Troy State University, where I obtained my B.S. in Elementary and Middle Grades Education. I later achieved my Masters in Reading and Literacy from Walden University. In 2016, I received my Doctoral degree in Educational Leadership.
I am resolute in my belief that my role as a leader is to support teachers, put students at the forefront of all decisions, empower parents, and engage all other stakeholders in the success of our students. I enjoy watching students learn and prosper in a caring, community-oriented environment. My belief is that all students have the ability to learn. Each student has his or her own style of learning and not every student will construct knowledge in the same manner.
As we move forward with our efforts, I invite you to think about something written long ago but something that still resonates today. Jane Goodall said,
“What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
I am confident that we will produce life-long learners, equipped with the skills to be successful in college, career, and life. I look forward to a year filled with stories of great success, great learning, and great memories.
Communication
I also believe that communication is the key to a great partnership. With your help, we can be partners in education. I encourage you to stop by and introduce yourself and or contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. You can email me shunda.walker@henry.k12.ga.us or contact me at 678-583-8919.
Educationally Yours,
Dr. Walker
