    Greetings Bulldog Family,

Welcome to eighth grade! In many ways, 8th grade is a year of transition, as students are expected to have mastered the ways of middle school and begin becoming “high-schoolers.” Specifically, it is my goal to support your 8th grader with developing his/her critical thinking skills and their ability to analyze literature.

My name is Mrs. Garth-Snell and I am looking forward to inspiring your scholar to love literature. I am a wife and the mother of two children. I was born and raised in the "SHOW ME" state, Missouri. I earned my bachelors degree from Harris-Stowe State University in St. Louis, Missouri and my Graduate Degree in Educational Leadership from Northcentral University in Arizona.  I have been an educator for 27 years. I am certified in early childhood, elementary, and middle grade education. I have taught in the Henry County School District for 11 years. This is my 4th year at Dutchtown Middle School.   I am looking forward to a great year of teaching and learning.

In my classroom, I have found immense success each year in the classroom because of one idea: relationships are key. Building a positive relationship with your student is my number one goal. If they feel welcome, secure, and confident to succeed in the classroom, they will. Educating your child will be a team effort, and I look forward to supporting each other on this front. I believe in creating a safe learning environment, so my scholars feel safe to take risks.  I work hard all year long building a classroom that encourages respect, trust, and a sense of ownership among students.  I believe that in order for us to achieve our highest potential, we must work together as a team.

Thank you for supporting your child’s success.  Know that I consider YOU a vital part of the teaching team.  Please feel free to contact me by email if you have any concerns, comments, or questions. mia.garth@henry.k12.ga.us.
