We understand that families are already working hard to help children cope with the impacts of COVID-19, and managing two national crises may cause increased distress. The social unrest in our nation that has been widely televised and promoted can both be difficult to fully understand, as well as to explain to children. The history of oppression that people of color have experienced, combined with the recent deaths in our nation have caused frustration and deep hurt which has fueled a call for change, as evidenced by the widespread protests in every state in our nation, and in cities throughout the world. We recognize that schools serve a vital role in supporting our school community during difficult times.
