Chorus FAQ'S

  • WHAT WILL I LEARN?

In Chorus, students will explore various styles of music, proper singing technique and music appreciation through listening, discussion, theory, music reading skills and performance.

All students will be required to perform for singing assesments and concerts for a grade. All performances are MANDATORY.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO CLASS?

All students are required to bring the following items to class: school issued laptop, paper and pencil (if they do not have a laptop), and a readiness to learn.

BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO SING!

Believe it or not, knowing how to sing is NOT a requirement for being in Chorus. Chorus isn't about being the best singer ever, but it is important to DO YOUR BEST! Just like many things in life, if you do your best, you WILL get better and you will grow musically.

    HOW CAN I BE SUCCESSFUL?

    1) Come to class prepared.

Always bring your laptop for written work everyday, paper and a writing utensil just in case you forget your laptop. This is essential.

    2) Ask Questions.

The teacher is there is to help you. If you don't understand something, don't be afraid to ask. Chances are, someone in your class has the same question. Be the one who has the guts to speak up!

    3) Need extra help? Ask the teacher.

If you need extra help with an assignment, your teacher will glady assist you. Send her an email, see her after class, or even after school. Taking the initiative can go a long way.

    4) ALWAYS PARTICIPATE!

This cannot be stressed enough. You must always particpate even if you feel a little uncomfortable at first. The more you try the easier things will get. Not only will this help you to be more successful, but you contribute to the success of the whole group. Look, "You'll never know if you don't try".
