Ms. Shirley Tarver - Assistant Principal

Shirley A. Tarver comes to Henry County by way of Augusta, Georgia. She is originally from Taunton, Massachusetts. Ms. Tarver attended Augusta State University (Psychology/Education), Cambridge College (School Counseling), and Georgia College and State University where she earned an Ed.S. in Educational Leadership.

Prior to Hampton High School, Ms. Tarver served as Assistant Principal and Graduation Coach at Jefferson County High School. She also coached the Dance Team. Ms. Tarver partnered with Family Connections, Community and Schools, community businesses and organizations to form relationships to provide services in an effort to better serve families.  

Ms. Tarver is currently a Research Assistant for the University of Georgia Center for Family Research. She is the Lead Facilitator on the Strong African American Families (SAAF) Program. Ms. Tarver teaches the SAAF Program to families across South Georgia to build on their strengths and support parents and youth, during the transition from early adolescence to the teen years with an emphasis on helping young people avoid risky and dangerous behaviors.

Ms. Tarver loves spending time with family, friends, and her fur baby. Her hobbies/pastimes include: swimming, reading, singing, and learning to play golf.

Fun Fact: Ms. Tarver was serenaded by her favorite artist, Eric Bennett, at a concert she did not want to attend…but is so glad she did!
