    Mission:

    The Hampton High School Dance Department aims to assist students in navigating the various mediums of dance, movement and choreography on a performative level. Our mission is to provide students with an awareness and appreciation for the kinesthetic values associated with the physical body, while learning to maneuver the body to demonstrate its expressive abilities. 

     

    Program Overview:

    While exploring various dance genres, students will learn about the history of dance, engage in dance activities and participate in dance events. 

     

    Program Description:

    The Hampton High School Dance Department is open to students at Hampton High School in grades 9th-12th, and is designed to give students on all levels the opportunity to master dance vocabulary and movements.  Students will have many opportunities to develop their dance skills through workshops, master's classes, choreographic and performance opportunities.

     

    Goals:

    • To learn self-discipline, self-confidence, respect and dedication through dance and using the body as an expression of art. 
    • To explore and master different dance styles and techniques through various exercises, stretches, and combinations. 
    • To develop and understand dance vocabulary. 
    • To develop choreographic skills. 
    • To develop kinesthetic awareness. 
    • To develop knowledge of dance history, dance and wellness, and the integration of technology.
    • To prepare students for post-secondary opportunities in dance and dance education
    • Prepare students, seeking careers in the field of dance, with the necessary resources and skills to be successful.
