• This program was developed by the state department of education to be a help to students and parents.  It is our goal to give students extra instruction in reading or math -whichever area they are being served.  This extra helping of instruction does not take the place of classroom instruction, but adds to it.  Hopefully, with this additional time of assistance and practice, your child will gain the skills and confidence they need to be able to exit EIP and perform on grade level on their own.  Students are NOT missing any grade level instruction in their regular classrooms.

    HOW DOES IT WORK?
    EIP MATH
In my math classes, students come to my classroom for their extra segment of math.  Henry county schools has adopted a program called Hands On Standards.  The curriculum involves using a lot of manipulatives to give students a concrete representation of the standards.  With Hands On Standards, I preview standards before they are covered in the classroom.  I typically stay one to two weeks ahead of the classroom teacher.  This helps students gain confidence with a skill before they are expected to master it in the classroom.  I also attempt to address gaps or weaknesses in the underlying concept of each standard.

    EIP READING
In my reading classes, we READ, READ, READ!  We read books that are just slightly above their reading level so that they are challenged, but not frustrated. EIP uses a program called Leveled Literacy Interventions (LLI) during reading classes.  This program incorporates books that are leveled by difficulty, but also high interest.   We work on skills with text that they are able to read independently.  We work on oral reading skills, fluency, decoding, vocabulary and comprehension.  By coming to EIP, they are given an extra opportunity to read in a small group daily.
