8th Grade Crossover Ceremony

Thursday May 23, 2024 at 1:00p.m. at Austin Road Middle School Gymnasium. 


Crossover Ceremony Dress Code: All 8th grade scholars should be dressed in business casual (blue, black or white). No leggings or jeans should be worn. Students should also wear their honor cord (red = Woodland High School, green = Stockbridge High School) that was presented to them at our Commitment to Graduate Ceremony. Parents, if you choose, you may check out your scholar promptly after the ceremony. Students should be present prior to the program so that they may attend practice, and line up ahead of the start time for the ceremony.

The end of the year has arrived! It has been our honor to work with you and your scholars this year. We are excited to begin the transition of the students to high school and celebrate the end of their middle school years. Below are some important things for you to know as we prepare to end the school year and celebrate our 8th grade scholars. Upcoming Dates: 

  • Friday, May- 10 8th Grade Dance- 6:30- 8:30 PM

  • Wednesday, May 15-  Field Day/ Superlative Ceremony

  • Thursday, May 16- Friday, May 17 - Final Exams (for 8th grade only)

  • Monday, May 20 - Field Trip Great Wolf Lodge

  • Tuesday, May 21- 8th Grade Brunch (10:00- 11:00 AM)

  • Tuesday, May 21- 8th Grade Signing Ceremony -  11:00- 12:00 PM- Parents are welcomed to join us for the signing ceremony.  

  • Thursday, May 23 - Crossover Ceremony (1:00-3:00PM)


Event Reminders, Updates and Guidelines

8th Grade Dance: May 10 

Per Henry County School policy, any student participating in after school events, must be present at school on the day of the event; therefore, students must be present at school on Friday, May 10 in order to attend the dance. Students may check-out beginning at 12PM on Friday.  Any student checking out prior to 12PM or checking in after 12PM, WILL BE COUNTED AS ABSENT FOR THE DAY AND INELIGIBLE TO ATTEND THE DANCE.

Dance will be held in the gym at the school.

Parents will not be permitted to attend the dance.  You are welcomed to take pictures of your student outside, but parents will not be permitted to enter the dance beyond the sign-in table.

This dance is only open to current 8th grade ARMS students. Students from other schools and 6th and 7th grade ARMS students may not attend the dance.

Any student who has not paid the $80 dance fee may not attend the dance.  Payment will not be accepted at the door.

Students who are academically or behaviorally ineligible will not be admitted into the dance.


Great Wolf Lodge: May 20

  • All scholars must have a signed waiver agreement in order to participate in any of the water activities per Great Wolf Lodge Policy. 

  • Students attending the field trip should be at the school by 8:30 AM the morning of the trip.

  • Lunch is provided as a part of the cost of the trip.  Students may bring additional snacks for the bus and/or money to purchase additional food at the venue

  • All students must be dressed in proper swim attire (bathing suits) while inside the park.  Street clothes can not be worn in the pools or on the slides.  

  • Boys should wear swim trunks. Additionally, boys will need a t-shirt that should be worn at all times when they are not in the water.  Speedos are not permitted.  

  • Girls should wear a full coverage - one piece bathing suit.  Girls may also wear a cover up or swim shorts when they are not in the water.  Please note that some slides at the park prohibit cover ups while on the ride due to safety concerns.  

  • All students should have pool shoes or flip flops to wear while not in the water.  

  • Students should bring a towel for drying off and a dry change of clothes for returning to campus after the trip.

  • Additional questions about attire for Great Wolf should directed directly to Mrs. Wrighton, 8th grade Assistant Principal.


Crossover Ceremony: May 23 Austin Road Gym

  • Attire: Boys should wear black or blue dress slacks with white collared shirts. Ties or bowties should be black, blue or patterned with a combination of black, white and blue. Girls should wear dresses, pant suits, or skirts and tops that are black, white, blue or any combination of those colors. ALL CLOTHING SHOULD BE IN ACCORDANCE TO THE HENRY COUNTY SCHOOLS/AUSTIN ROAD MIDDLE SCHOOL DRESS CODE POLICY.   Jeans should not be worn. Additionally, students both male and female are not allowed to wear slippers, Crocs, or flip flops.  

  • Please note that per Henry County policy, all purses/tote bags must be clear or see through. Diaper bags are permitted.
