About me

Hello Unity Grove family!

My name is Joyce Melbourne and I am excited to be a part of your family for the 23-24 school year. I wanted to begin by introducing myself to you formally. I am originally from the Caribbean, Guyana, South America, but I grew up in Miami, Florida. I have been married for over 20 years to my husband Sylvan, and together we have seven children, five boys and two girls ranging from 27 to 3 years old. I was their homeschool teacher, and I am proud to share that my eldest has graduated from Franklin and Marshall's University in 2020 in Software engineering, while the 2nd eldest is in college. The others range from high school to preschool. We lived in Fairburn for over 7 years before going back to Miami to take care of my ailing mother-in-law, who sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2013. We decided to try Henry County this time around, and have been here since 2019.

I earned my Bachelor's in Early Childhood Education in 2014, and my Master's in Teaching and Learning with Technology in 2016 from Ashford University. I started formally teaching in Port St. Lucie, Florida, where I taught 2nd grade, and continued at Hampton Elementary, where I taught 1st grade.
