Mrs. Skaggs
Welcome to the ILT corner with Mrs. Skaggs! I have been teaching in the Henry County Public School System since 2001-2002. I have taught grades K-12, and am so excited to be able to help students and staff grow in all skills. I have worked as a general ed. and special ed. teacher in multiple grade levels and and subject areas. I have served as a collaborative ESE teacher and as a resource ESE teacher in multiple grades and content areas also. One of my most favorite roles, has been serving as an EIP teacher for grades k-5 at RCE and HES in both reading and math. My master's degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for P-12 grades was earned in 2006. It has been a long-term goal to be able to assume a role that would enable me to support teaching and learning in a school near and dear to my heart. Both of my oldest boys started their educational journey at HES many years ago. I have three boys, a dog, cat, and a wonderful husband who helps keep us all on track. Feel free to email me at dskaggs@henry.k12.ga.us.edu if you have any questions.
Philosphy of Education
I believe all students are capable of setting and reaching challenging learning goals. It is my goal to challenge my students daily with instruction that is engaging, relative to the real world, and meaninful. Building relationships with students is just as important to me as fostering academic growth. Establishing good relationships with parents and the community are essential in being able to meet the needs of students. In order to have a healthy classroom, I believe teachers must model how to treat others with respect, reflect, self-assess, and cheer each other on. I plan on providing my students with many oportunities to build upon areas of strength while also closing gaps in weaker areas. Students will participate in individual conferences frequently to identify growth and areas in need of extra support. I want my classroom to be a place where all students feel included, loved, valued, and heard. Teaching is a calling, and I am so thankful for the opportunity to work with my students.
