Greetings! I am Mrs. Johnson, proud Mental Health and Wellness Facilitator at EXCEL Academy. My educational background consists of a B.S. in Biology, and a Master of Arts in Teaching. Prior to being in education, I was sworn in as a Georgia Law Enforcement Peace Officer. During that time, I worked in the Department of Juvenile Justice where I specialized in the de-escalation of incarcerated young adolescents and teens. From there I segued into education, with most of my teaching years being spent in the alternative setting.

My experiences and deep understanding of populations of students who are majorly affected by trauma drives me to dedicate my work to positively affecting the whole child through trauma informed and prevention practices. Throughout the years, I have led teachers through the implementation of various therapeutic programs in the educational setting such as Emory University’s SEE Learning Program, the National Youth Leadership Conference’s Project-Based Learning Program, the HealthMPowers Program, as well as the Positive Behaviors Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Program. I am EXCEL Academy’s 2018 Teacher of the Year, which was definitely a major career highlight. As a certified Trauma and Resiliency Practitioner, Mindset Instructor and PBIS Coach, I believe that all children can learn above or at grade level, and my mission is to ensure that students are receiving the best of us as we provide a healthy and safe learning environment.
