Dear Parents and Families:
I want to extend to you and your child my warmest welcome into our classroom. My name is Mr. Atchison and I will be your child’s Education and Training Pathway Teacher. This pathway consists of three courses to include: ECE-1, ECE-II and ECE-III. I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutrition and Hospitality Management from Alabama A&M University in Huntsville, Alabama. I also earned a Master of Education degree (M.Ed.) with a concentration in Adult Education and Development.
I completed my Teacher’s Certification at Georgia State University in Atlanta, Ga. and recently completed my educational leadership coursework. I have been in the education field for seventeen years. I worked in the DeKalb County School District for over 14 years. During my tenure for the DeKalb County School District I was fortunate to have earned my Reading, Teacher Support Specialist and Coaching Endorsements. I have experience teaching the Hospitality and Tourism Pathway and became a certified culinary educator as well. Furthermore, I serve as the FCCLA advisor which is co-curricular and is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues. I will also serve as the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support Coach(PBIS) for McDonough High School for school year 2019-2020.
My philosophy for learning is that each child is unique, and each child learns in a different way. One of my jobs as a teacher is to help your child discover his or her individuality and work alongside with them to maximize it. I believe in hands- on experiences, learning creatively and learning through observation and collaboration. Parents the end of the semester will be here before we know it, therefore, instructions must take place daily, without interruptions. I am really looking forward to a fun- filled educational year!
Finally, I want you to know that one of my most important goals this year is to keep the lines of communication open with you. Please don’t hesitate to contact me @470-615-3450 or email me at tony.atchison@henry.k12.ga.us if you have any questions or concerns during the year. I prefer email if possible!
